OSHA 10-Hour Roadway Construction and Expanded Fall Prevention

This class is offered in partnership with the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA). Registration fees are subsidized with funding from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). After attending this two-day training, you will receive a certificate of completion and a OSHA 10 Hour Roadway Contruction card. This class is California OSHA compliant.

OSHA 10-hour Construction Course

The OSHA 10-hour Construction course is a one and a half day program and will provide an overview of OSHA standards in these areas:
  • Roadway Work Zones
  • Personal Protective Equipment and High Visibility Garments
  • Collisions
  • Night Work, Mechanized Equipment
  • Mechanized Equipment
  • Excavations, Trenching and Confined Spaces
  • Fall Prevention and Protection
  • Hazard Communications
  • Occupational Health and Environmental Controls

Fall Prevention Training

This 3-hour course is supported by the Department of Labor and provides training to protect workers against falls especially from bridge work. Falls are the second-leading cause of death in the transportation construction Industry, behind runovers and backovers. As a part of this course the student will:
  • Understand the basic methods to identify and reduce the exposure of the employee to falls
  • Understand the risk of falls from equipment
  • Identify the four steps to selecting the right fall protection equipment
  • Review the process for the development of a fall protection and rescue plan

Intended audience for this course

The owners, managers, and staff of those organization working on roadway construction projects and staff that work with evaluated platforms and structures above 6 feet. Project managers, inspectors, and technical staff of state or local agencies, and other personal working around or on roadway construction projects. This course discusses OSHA requirements with the goal of protecting all employees.

Cancellation Policy

To cancel your registration and receive a refund less a $75 processing fee, you must notify TechTransfer at least five (5) working days before the course is scheduled to begin. Notifications must be made in writing and sent by email to registrar@techtransfer.berkeley.edu. We reserve the right to charge the full course fee if proper notification is not sent to TechTransfer. We don't offer refunds for classes with registration fees of $75 or less.

In lieu of canceling your registration, you have three additional options: you may (1) transfer your registration to another class, (2) receive a tuition credit for the total amount, useable toward a future class, or (3) send a substitute in your place. Please contact us at least 5 full working days before the class is scheduled to begin so we may process your request.

If you’ve registered for a self-paced class, you cannot receive a refund once you start the class.

We recommend you discuss any possible problems or online security issues with your IT person before you register for any online classes. If you are worried about connectivity issues, please contact the online training coordinator the week before the class to schedule a time to test your system. If you do not test your system and you have technical issues during a live online class, we will not provide a refund.

Bruce Drewes

Transportation Technology Transfer (3T) Group

Mr. Drewes has working in the transportation industry for the pass thirty two years. Working for the Idaho Transportation Department for nineteen years in maintenance, construction, traffic and training. In 2001, he moved to the University of Idaho as the Training and Research Manager for the Idaho Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP). In 2005, Mr. Drewes become President of the National LTAP Association and in 2007 the Co-Chair of NLTAPA Safety Committee. Late in 2008 the Idaho LTAP was moved to the Local Highway Technical Assistance Program, Bruce moved with the program, becoming the Manger of the program until his retirement on August 2013. He has continued his focus on employee and transportation safety by providing courses through the ARTBA's Road Safety Plus program on topics ranging from Disaster Response, OSHA 10 hour, Preventing Runover and Backovers and Train the Trainer course on the Road Safety Plus program.
